Ginsberg e os esqueletos

Um ano antes de morrer (1996), o poeta norte-americano Allen Ginsberg reuniu Paul Mc Cartney na guitarra e bateria, Philip Glass nos teclados e o baixista da banda de Patti Smith, Leny Kaye, para gravar a adaptação musical de seu poema A balada dos esqueletos.

Allen Ginsberg nasceu em 3 de junho de 1926 em Newark, Nova Jersey e morreu em 5 de abril de 1997.

O poema A balada dos esqueletos foi escrito em 1995 e a ideia de gravá-lo veio do ex-beatle quando Ginsberg o leu em sua casa na Inglaterra. O poeta inspirou-se na celebração mexicana do Dia dos Mortos de 2 de novembro.
